If you love cars but want to save on gas then enjoy
time in town at some local events. Visit Spring Street and Sierra
Avenue on October 3 from 5 to 10 pm where the people will amaze you,
the vendors, volunteers, and live band will entertain you, and the
cars will astound you!
Cruise
Night is the first Friday of every month except January and July.
Cruise Night and Market Night is
now in its fifth year and as time goes by the number has gone from
hundreds of visitors to at least 1,000 each month. This year the
event is sponsored by two car clubs, the Donut Gang and Empire Classics,
who have created quite a stir amongst Inland Empire clubs and brought
more attention to the Fontana area.
Cruise Night is a car lover’s dream. Throughout
the night Pontiacs, Cadillacs, Volkswagens, Fords, Harleys and more,
parade along Spring Street. Some announce their arrival with a siren
sound, while low-riders hop, elevate, or make their way through the
crowds on two wheels. Drivers come alone, with good friends, dates
and families – there really is no demographic that doesn’t
fit the “cruiser mold.”
Live Entertainment
As
dusk falls crowds gather at both ends of Spring Street. Some look
at cars and shop, others dance to live entertainment.
Bands are an essential aspect to the Cruise
Night experience. Each month the genres vary from rock,
to Latin, to country. Each band has kept the crowds movin’ and
groovin’ to their sounds and all to the steady pace of the
cars and motorcycles.
On September 5, the weather was heating up and Fontana
was too, with The Original Sacrifice who
kept the crowds dancing and singing with their unique blend of Latin,
Rhythm and Blues, jazz, funk, and oldies.
Jim Palmer and the Jazz Norwegians are
scheduled to perform on Friday, October 3.
Vendors
Food
and specialty goods are available in the vending area.
Vendors make up the Market Night aspect
of Cruise Night on Spring Street. Lining the parking
lot of the Art Depot, vendors set up specialty item booths found
specifically at Cruise Night. Everyone finds something from the delicious
baked brownies and cookies, to BBQ off the grill, to street bikes,
video games and Fontana’s own Mobile Recreation Unit which
offers free animal balloons and face painting for children.
