Fitness registration in Fontana

Fontana, California, August 12, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to register for upcoming martial arts and fitness classes at the Don Day Neighborhood Center, located at 14501 Live Oak Avenue, Cypress Neighborhood Center, located at 8380 Cypress Avenue, and Heritage Neighborhood Center, located at 7350 W. Liberty Parkway.

  • Tae Kwon Do is available to students ages 6 and older on various days depending on the ability level of the student. All classes are held three days per week and are $55 for 4 weeks. A satellite program is also available at Juniper Elementary, located at 7655 Juniper Avenue for ages 4 and older on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning September 2 from 6 to 6:55 pm.   • Body Sculpting is a focused muscle building and body toning, class where weights and resistance training help to strengthen and tone muscles. The class is for adults on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm for $40 for 4 weeks beginning August 25.
  • Zumba is the newest fitness craze sweeping the nation. The cross-cultural fun dance based aerobic workout fits all body types and abilities. The class is for ages 12 and older on Monday and Wednesday from 7:15 to 8:15 pm beginning August 25 for $40 for 4 weeks. Zumba Kids is specifically designed for children ages 6 to 11 for $20 for 4 weeks on Tuesdays beginning August 26 from 4 to 5 pm.
  • Olympic-Style Judo is a traditional Judo class using throws and grappling techniques. The class is open to students ages 6 and older on Thursdays for $15 for 4 weeks beginning August 28 from 7 to 8:30 pm.
  • Tai Chi as a Way of Regimen offers a peaceful rhythmic exercise for students ages 16 and older for $50 for 4 weeks on Fridays and Saturdays beginning August 29 from 8:15 to 9:45 am.
  • Self-defense series for youth: Heritage offers three classes each for $30 for 4 weeks on Saturdays, beginning August 31. Classes are designed to build self-confidence and teach essential skills for defense against an attacker. The classes can be taken individually or in a series. The classes include Winning Edge Child Awareness Rapid Escape (W.E.C.A.R.E) is from 10 to 11 am for ages 6 to 12; Fight Like a Girl (F.L.A.G.) for ages 13 and older is from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm; and Girls on Guard (G.O.G.) for ages 13 and older is from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

  • Karatedo is a unique form of Japanese Martial Arts. The class is based on self-discipline and self-confidence. Beginning students meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:45 pm and intermediate students meet from 6:45 to 7:45 pm. Classes begin August 26 for $50 for 4 weeks. The instructor is a 9th degree black belt.
