September Open Studio at the Art Depot

Fontana, California, August 18, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to the September Open Studio sessions at the Art Depot, located at 16822 Spring Street on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 1:30 pm, 2 to 3:30 pm, and 4 to 5:30 pm. Sessions are $3 per participant. Pre-registrations are available.

Building Klimt on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 introduces students to Austrian born painter, Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). The artist is well known for his highly recognizable gold leaf paintings which include the ever popular “The Kiss” and “Adele Bloch-Bauer” the latter of which sold at public auction for a record $135 million. The study of Klimt will cover the detailed work of this popular painter and offer some hands-on practice for participants.

X-ray Painting on Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 introduces Australian aboriginal art where skeletons and internal organs of animals, fish, and birds are superimposed with the animals’ external features. Students work with the grey color scale as well as black and white to create their own x-ray spirit.

Starry Night on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 offers a demonstration and exercise in art inspired by the expressionist movement, most notably by the work of Vincent Van Gogh. Participants walk away with a great admiration for Van Gogh’s work and his influence in the move from the impressionist era of painting into an all new expressionist movement. The review of the famed, “Starry Night” which was painted in June 1889 will provide insight into the style of one of the greatest artists of all time.

Dot to Dot Seurat on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27 introduces the wonders of pointillism most notably expressed by neo-Impressionist artist, George Seurat. Students will study pictures and try to create their own using dots instead of brush strokes. The class involves an astute attention to detail.
